Day 30 - Joshua 1:8-9

Joshua 1:8-9

8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

God called Joshua to lead his people into the Promised Land. This was a huge task but God had Moses write down everything Joshua needed to know to be “prosperous and successful.” Joshua was instructed to meditate on God’s word day
and night.

The word meditate scares a lot of people. It sounds alien to us... The reality is that everyone meditates. Meditation is simply the process by which the mind dwells with some intensity and duration over a thought or image. We may meditate over Sports Center, the Dow Jones average, a Simpsons episode on television, or what the scale reading was this morning. The issue when it comes to meditation is what, not if.

Scripture says a lot about mediating wisely... In a sense meditation is just positive worry. If you know how to worry, you know how to meditate. (GICTYT, p. 92)

How does dwelling on God’s promises to be with us wherever we go help us not be afraid or discouraged?
